Stocks (also called "equities") are pieces of ownership share in a business. One of the most important concepts to understand when you buy shares in a company, is that you become a part-owner of the company. True investors, like Warren Buffett and his partner Charlie Munger, do not think of shares as pieces of paper (or symbols on a computer screen), but as flesh and blood businesses run on your behalf by trusted managers.
